Pte. Benjamin Fawcett (see 13th
November) was reported by Cpls. George Kelly (see 1st
December) and Lawrence William Hinchcliffe (see 23rd December) and L.Cpls. Geoffrey Bland and Arthur Whincup (see 16th
October) as “absenting from sick parade at 9am until found in billets at
10.15pm”. He would be further reported by Cpls. Hinchcliffe and Wilfred Town
(see below) and L.Cpls. Clarence Smith (see 18th
August) and Charles Bates (see 20th March) as “breaking
his arrest at 8am on 25th December from L.Cpl. Smith and remaining
absent until found in billets at 6pm on 28th December”. On the
orders of Maj. William Norman Town (see 14th December), he would
undergo 28 days’ Field Punishment no.1. L.Cpl. Smith would be severely reprimanded by Maj. Town, having been reported by
Cpl. Hinchcliffe
for, “neglect of duty; when in charge of a prisoner, allowing him to escape”.
Wilfred Town was a 25 year-old weaver from Silsden.
Pte. Walter Oddy (see 24th February), serving at the Royal Engineers Special Factory Section at Les Attaques, was posted back to England for demobilization.
