The second day of the Battalion sports was completed with
the finals of the 100 yards and the quarter mile; an obstacle race and a sack
race; 220-yard handicap races for officers and also a similar event for warrant
officers; a veteran’s 100 yards handicap; a Company tug o’war event; and the
programme concluded with a handicap race for members of the Battalion band.

re-joined the Battalion from 23rd Division Rest Station.
Ptes. Ernest Ashness
(see 18th October) and James Grubb (see 28th July) were admitted to 23rd Division
Rest Station, suffering from scabies; both would be discharged to duty after
six days.
Ptes. William Harper
(25972) MM (see 18th October),
Herbert Jacklin (see 20th August), Harry Orchard (see 29th October 1917), John Perrin (see 5th
June), Fred Teal (see 2nd July)
and George Wheatley (see 4th October) departed on
two weeks’ leave to England.
Pte. William Henry
Bray (see 22nd October)
was discharged from the Convalescent Depot at Lido d’Albaro, near Genoa and
posted to to the Base Depot at Arquata Scrivia.
At her home in Shipley, Mrs. Annie Smith, wife of Pte. Tom Smith (see 20th September), died from influenza and pneumonia;
she was 26 years old.
