A Battalion sports day would be held over the next two days,
with events commencing at 1pm each day. Capt. Leonard
Norman Phillips MC (see 11th
November) was the official
starter for all events; the judges were Capt. John Edward Lennard Payne DSO, MC (see 2nd December), Capt. Dick Bolton MC (see 5th December), Battalion Chaplain, Rev. Hugh
Wilfrid Todd (see 27th
July), Battalion Medical Officer Capt. Norman Robert Davis (see 25th August) and 2Lt.
Cyril Edward Agar (see 26th September); and
clerk of the course was 2Lt. Mark Allan
Stanley Wood MC (see 2nd
December), assisted by the Company Sergeant Majors. Cash prizes were
provided for each event and points were also to be awarded towards the
Battalion competition. The first day’s events were the heats of the 100 yards
and quarter mile; the half mile; the Company relay race; the long jump; high
jump and putting the weight. Unfortunately the individual competitors and
results are not known.

Cpl. Bertie
Thurling (see 9th
November) was discharged from 62nd General Hospital at
Bordighera, near Ventimiglia and posted to “Caesar’s Camp” at Arquata Scrivia.
Pte. John Henry Crawshaw (see 27th November), serving in France with 1st/7th DWR, was appointed (unpaid) Acting Lance Corporal.

Cpl. William Foulds
(see 15th November) was
discharged from the Military Hospital in Halifax and returned to duty at the
Regimental Depot.
The War Office wrote to the father of Maj. Herbert St. John Carr West (see 11th November), who had
died of wounds on 27th October, to inform him that his son was
buried at Lancenigo Communal Cemetery Extension, Villorba. There had already
been a query raised by Maj. Carr-West’s widow over a possible dispute between
herself and his parents over the administration of his affairs.
