The Battalion was engaged in training and on the rifle
range.
Temporary, Medical Officer, Lt. E.J. Fisher (see 8th July), left the
Battalion; presumably Capt. Norman Robert Davis (see 8th July) had returned
from leave.
Pte. Charles Walton (see 31st October 1917) was
reported by Cpl. Mark Butler
(see 25th May) and Lt.
Andrew Aaron Jackson (see 21st June) as
“absent from roll call at 9pm until reporting at 9.30pm’; on the orders of Capt.
Dick Bolton MC (see 27th July) he was to be confined to barracks for five
days.
Pte. Harry Beaumont (29306) (see 25th July) was transferred from 23rd Division Rest Station to 62nd General Hospital at Bordighera, near Ventimiglia; he was suffering from “I.C.T.” (inflammation of the connective tissue) to his neck.
Pte. Alfred Charles Dolphin (see 17th July) was transferred from 29th Stationary Hospital in Cremona to 62nd General Hospital at Bordighera, near Ventimiglia; he was suffering from “I.C.T.” (Inflammation of the connective tissue) to his left hand.

discharged from 24th Casualty Clearing Station and posted to the
Base Depot at Arquata Scrivia.
Pte. Herbert Willis
Pickles (see 29th June),
who was under treatment for gonorrhoea at Brighton Grove Military Hospital in
Newcastle, was reported for ‘breaking out of hospital’ at 6pm; he would remain ‘absent
without leave until 12.10am the following day and would be ordered to be
deprived of seven days’ pay. Five days later he would be discharged from
hospital and re-join 3DWR at North Shields.
Pte. Patrick Conley (see 23rd June), serving in England with the Labour
Corps, was posted to 303rd Reserve Labour Company.
Pte. William Henry Thornton
(see 7th August 1917), serving
in England with the Army Pay Corps, was appointed Corporal.
Acting L.Cpl. John
Widdup (see 9th March),
serving with 322nd Quarrying Company, Royal Engineers, had his rate
of pay raised to ‘skilled rate’; he was the brother of 2Lt. Harry Widdup (see 21st March).
