Thursday 4th July 1918

Support positions near Mount Torle.

The Battalion was relieved by 10th Northumberland Fusiliers and marched via Pria del Aqua to Divisional Reserve at Club Camp, west of Granezza, were they were accommodated in huts and tents.
Pte. Ernest Locker Smith (see 19th April), who had been wounded in April, was posted to England.
Pte. Charles Knight (see 25th June), who was on attachment to a working party at Rocchetto Station, was reported as having been, “absent from 7am until reporting himself at 12.15am on 5th July”; this being the latest in a string of disciplinary offences, he would be ordered to undergo 21 days’ Field Punishment No.2 and to forfeit 28 days’ pay.

Pte. Eli Bradley (see 1st May), serving in India with 1DWR, was admitted to hospital in Gharial, suffering from malaria; he would be discharged to duty after 12 days, but would then be re-admitted for a further 19 days’ treatment before re-joining his Battalion.
L.Cpl. William Stowell (see 7th February), serving with 3DWR at North Shields, was formally discharged from the Army as no longer physically fit for service due to wounds suffered in action.
