Trenches east of Armagh Wood

Christmas Day passed without remark in the Battalion War Diary, and the Diary of the Divisional Trench Mortar Battery noted simply, “No firing at all; Fritz heard singing in his trenches”.

Pte. William Hindle (see 19^th December) reported sick, suffering from bronchitis; he would be treated locally at first (details unknown) before being transferred to 2^nd Canadian General Hospital in Boulogne on 30^th December.

Capt. Henry Kelly VC (see 8^th December) left the Battalion having reported sick; the nature of his illness and treatment have not yet been established.
As a result, he relinquished his temporary appointment as Captain and reverted to Lieutenant.

Pte. William Ackroyd (see 8^th December), who had been in England since having been wounded in July, was discharged from Keighley War Hospital; the details of his immediate posting are unknown but he would subsequently (date and details unknown) be posted back to France and would join 2DWR.
