Russell (see 7th March)
was reported by Cpl. Alfred Sayer (see 11th January) for ‘having an untidy bed’; on the
orders of Capt. Dick Bolton MC (see 7th March) he would be
confined to barracks for three days.
Sgt. Joseph Patrick
Melvin (see 18th December
1917) was posted back to England to join 90th Territorial Force
Depot.
Sgt. Arthur Manks (see 1st September 1917) was
transferred from 10th Battalion Royal Defence Corps to 161st
Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps.
At home in Liverpool, Florence Smallwood, wife of Pte. John Smallwood (see 5th October 1917) gave birth to a daughter; the
child would be named Josephine Beatrice.
At home in Kearsley, James Albert Longworth, the infant son
of Pte. James Longworth (see 3rd February), who was
serving at the Trench Mortar School at the Base Depot at Arquata Scrivia, died
at the age of 13 days. His cause of death was stated simply to be ‘immaturity’.
Acting L.Cpl. John Widdup, serving with 322nd
Quarrying Company, Royal Engineers, returned to the UK on two week’s leave; he
was the brother of 2Lt. Harry Widdup
(see 8th March).
A payment of £6 12s. 6d. was authorised, being the amount
due in pay and allowances to the late CSM Joseph
Bona (see 17th December
1917), who had been killed in action on 18th October 1917;
the payment would go to his father, Thomas.
