Tuesday 6th February 1917

Winnipeg Camp

The same routine was maintained with training and working parties. The weather remained bitterly cold; Brig. Genl. Thomas Stanton Lambert (see 4th February) noted in his diary, “Very hard frost. About 32 degress F”.
(I am greatly indebted to Juliet Lambert for her generosity in allowing me to quote from Brig. Genl. Lambert’s diary and letters).
L.Cpl. James Moran (see 30th July 1916) reverted, at his own request, to the rank of Private.
Pte. William Walker Rossall (see 12th November 1916) was promoted (unpaid) Lance Corporal

L.Cpl. John Henry Crawshaw (see 14th January), who had been wounded in the shelling of Ypres a month previously, was discharged from 15th Casualty Clearing Station and re-joined the Battalion.

Battalion Adjutant Lt. Hugh William Lester MC (see 25th January), currently on leave in England prior to taking up a temporary appointment with 69th Brigade Headquarters, was promoted Captain.

A payment of £14 3s. was authorised, being the amount outstanding in pay and allowances to the late Pte. Harold Beighton (see 6th October), who had died of wounds in October 1916; the payment would go to his brother, and sole legatee, John.

A pension award was made in respect of the late Pte. Harry Towell (see 15th November 1916), who had been killed in action on 5th July 1916; his mother, Mary, was awarded 2s. 6d. per week, to be reviewed after one year.
