Sunday 3rd October 1915

Billeted in huts near Rue Marle.

The War Diary tersely stated, “One man was wounded; nothing to report”.

The man wounded was Pte. John William Cooper; he had suffered a gunshot wound to his right wrist, presumably whilst on one of the working parties with the Royal Engineers. He would be admitted to 23rd General Hospital at Etaples before being evacuated to England three days later onboard the Hospital Ship St. David. He was an original member of the Battalion, having enlisted, aged 29 and married with four children, while working as an iron turner in Keighley; he had previously served with the territorials.
