Monday 2nd August 1915


J.B. Priestley wrote to his family, who there then on holiday in Llandudno. The frustration of men at remaining so long in camp was clear, as he told his family, “The men here are getting thoroughly dissatisfied at being kept so long – training and training month after month – and there are many slight signs of disturbance, so much so that the discipline is much stricter, heavy pack drill being given to defaulters”.





L.Cpl. Harry Clark (see 1st May) was admitted to Connaught Hospital, Aldershot for treatment for syphilis; he would be discharged to duty after nine days. Whilst in hospital his previously unpaid promotion was confirmed and he began to be paid as a Lance Corporal.
