Sunday 8th April 1917

Scottish Camp, south-west of Brandhoek

Easter Sunday. Training continued and the weather remained very cold. While the Battalion, with the rest of 69th Brigade, remained in Divisional Reserve at Scottish Camp, 70th Brigade took over a 2,500 yard stretch of the front line astride the Zillebeke-Zwarteleen road.

Pte. Ellis Sutcliffe (see 14th March), who had been wounded six weeks previously, re-joined the Battalion from 34th Infantry Base Depot at Etaples. Pte. Arthur Lumb (see 5th December 1916) also re-joined the Battalion 34th Infantry Base Depot at Etaples; he had spent the previous four months at Etaples following dental treatment in December 1916. The reason for his extended stay at Etaples is unclear.

Pte. Edward Grayshon (see 19th March) was admitted discharged from 23rd Division Rest Station and re-joined the Battalion; he had been suffering from “I.C.T.” (Inflammation of the connective tissue) ‘general’.
Pte. Henry Marshall (see 25th March) who had been treated for syphilis, re-joined the battalion and Pte. Patrick Sweeney (see 21stMarch), who had been treated for gonorrhoea was also posted back to the Battalion from no.34 Infantry Base Depot at Etaples.
CQMS Cyril Edward Agar, (see 24th February), 9th Yorkshires, having spent six weeks on leave in England, was posted to no.19 Officer Cadet Battalion based at Pirbright. Once commissioned he would serve with 10DWR. Sgt. George Clifford Sugden (see 12th February), 10th East Yorkshires, also began his course of officer training, although it is not clear to which Cadet Battalion he was posted. He would later be commissioned and serve with 10DWR.
