Tuesday 24th November 1914

In training at Frensham.

Pte. Joseph Hanson was reported as ‘absent without leave’. The following day, on the orders of 2Lt. Harold Lockhart Waite, he would be ordered to undergo seven days’ Field Punishment no.2. Pte. Hanson was a 32 year-old labourer from Shipley; he had enlisted in Huddersfield on 9th November and had only joined 10DWR on 18th November. In 1906 he had served four months with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps before being discharged as ‘medically unfit’.
