On yet another bitterly cold day, the Battalion returned to
the same sector of the front line as on their previous tour, relieving 11th
West Yorks, with the relief complete by 8.20pm.
The application for a commission completed the previous day
by CSM Billy Oldfield MM (see 27th January) was
endorsed by Major Ashton St. Hill (see 2nd January), temporary
C.O. 10DWR. Odfield had also been certified as medically fit by Battalion M.O.,
Capt. Cecil Berry (see 10th January).

Pte. Walter White

who had originally served with Tunstill’s Company but had been transferred to
2DWR in April 1915, and had subsequently been posted back to England, was
reported absent without leave from the Regimental Depot at Halifax.
