There was a sudden and marked change in the weather and the
day became very hot.
Pte. George William
Ball (see 7th July)
was admitted via 70th Field Ambulance and 9th Casualty
Clearing Station to 38th Stationary Hospital in Genoa, suffering
from influenza.
Pte. Reginald Dayson
(see 15th October), who
had been absent without leave for the previous five days, was apprehended by
the Military Foot Police in Bologna at about 3.30pm. He would be returned to
the Battalion and held in confinement to await trial by Field General Court
Martial.
Pte. Ernest Franklin
(25969) (see 27th September)
was killed in action while serving in France with 5DWR; he would be buried at
Quievy Communal Cemetery Extension, east of Cambrai.
Pte. James Duncan
Foster (see 26th July),
serving in France with 2DWR, was wounded in action, suffering a ‘through and
through’ gunshot wound to his left knee; he would be admitted to 32nd
Stationery Hospital at Wimereux.
L.Cpl. George Oversby
(see 11th October), who
had been wounded a week previously while serving in France with 1st/4th
DWR, was evacuated to England from 22nd General Hospital in Camiers,
travelling onboard the Hospital Ship Princess
Elizabeth. On arriving in England he would be admitted to 1st Birmingham
War Hospital.
2Lt. Conrad Anderson
(see 3rd October), who had
reported sick whilst serving with a battalion of the Dukes in France (details
unknown), was posted back to England, travelling from Calais to Dover.
