Pte. John William Thistlethwaite (see 8th September 1914) was
discharged from the Army on account of “general debility and pulmonary weakness”.
He had originally volunteered one week after his younger brother, George, had
enlisted. George had also subsequently been discharged on grounds of ill health
(see 3rd October 1914).
At home in Bradford, Elizabeth
Thornton, wife of Pte. Joseph Thornton, gave birth to the couple’s
second child; the boy would be named William. Joseph Thornton was a 23 year-old
platelayer from Bradford; he had enlisted in Bradford in January and had been
posted to 10DWR on 8th April.
