Saturday 1st September 1917

Bivouacs and dugouts at Chateau Segard, near the hamlet of Kruistraathoek.

2Lt. Ronald Ferguson (see 1st July) was promoted Lieutenant.
Pte. Ernest Hardcastle (see 8th July) was admitted to 70th Field Ambulance, suffering from accidental, minor, burns to his hands; after four days he would be transferred to 23rd Divisional Rest Station.


Pte. Thomas Manuell (see 22nd May), who had been receiving treatment for a severe case of ‘trench foot’, was discharged from 12th Convalescent Depot at Aubengue and posted to 34th Infantry Base Depot at Etaples, en route to a return to active service.
Orders were issued for the role to be played by 69th Brigade in a forthcoming assault on the German lines. However, these orders would be subsequently revised and re-issued.


Sgt. Arthur Manks (see 17th August), serving with 1st (Garrison) Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, was transferred to 10th Battalion Royal Defence Corps, based at Hartlepool.
L.Cpl. Joseph Simpson (see 14th July), serving in England with 493rd (Home Service) Employment Company, Labour Corps, was transferred back to 14th Training Reserve Battalion.



Pte. Eastwood Wilkinson (see 1st August), serving with 3DWR at North Shields, was transferred to the Royal Defence Corps.
A payment of 9s. 7d. was authorised, being the amount due in pay and allowances to the late Sgt. John Thomas Hall MM (see 23rd June) who had been killed in action on 23rd May; the payment would go to his father, John.

A payment of £2 4s. 7d. was authorised, being the amount due in pay and allowances to the Pte. Frank Beaumont (see 7th June) who had been killed in action on 7th June; the payment would go to his father, Charles.  



The pension award made in respect of the late Pte. Harry Towell (see 6th February), who had been killed in action on 5th July 1916, was reviewed; the pension granted to his mother, Mary, was increased from 2s. 6d. per week, to 3s. 6d. and was confirmed as being a life grant.
