Eperlecques

There was a large-scale Brigade exercise “accompanied by contact patrol aeroplanes”; the exercise, which comprised of “two attacks from long distance in open formation”, continued all day and was completed about 4.30pm.

Pte. Howarth Reid (see 6th June 1916) was appointed (unpaid) Lance Corporal.
Pte. Lewis Walton (see 12th February), serving with 3DWR at North Shields, was posted to 1DWR and, within days, would set sail with a draft from Plymouth to Bombay.

Pte. Walter Lee (see 12th February), serving with 83rd Training Reserve Battalion, based at Gateshead, was formally transferred to the Army Reserve Class W and released to resume his pre-war employment as a core maker for Messrs. Joseph Blakeborough & Sons, Woodhouse Works, Brighouse.

A payment of £19 0s 5d was authorised, being the amount outstanding in pay and allowances to the late Sgt. Harry Lyddington Mason (see 3rd November); the payment would go to his father, John.

A payment of £4 12s 4d was authorised, being the amount outstanding in pay and allowances to the late Pte. Ernest Balmforth (see 25th September 1916) who had been killed in action in September 1916; the payment would go to his father, William.
