Another quiet day, with some rain.

Pte. Harry Smith (3/11979) departed for England on one weeks’ leave. He had been an original member of the Battalion having enlisted aged 45 and living in Keighley; he had been working as a fitter in a textile mill and was married, with four children.

Cpl. Robert Hunter (see 21^st December 1915) , who had been in England the past month after suffering from “V.D.H.” (valvular disease of the heart) and specifically from ‘mitrial regurgitation’, was discharged from the Great Hermitage VAD Hospital at Higham, Kent. He was reported as being ‘fairly well’ and, after ten day’s furlough, would join at Brocton Camp, Staffs..
