Another quiet day, with the weather remaining fine but cold.
The War Diary reported that for the last two days it had remained, “very quiet,
except for machine guns which traversed the parapet”. Lt. Dick Bolton (see 21st
October) later recalled this sector in similar terms; he remembered it as
being, “comparatively quiet, though the Germans amused themselves by ripping
the sandbags on the top of our parapet with machine gun fire at night, after
calling out in English to induce our people to raise their heads”.
