Thursday 8th April 1915

In billets at Folkestone
Ptes. John William Jackson, Joseph Culbert Preston and William Taylor joined the Battalion, having enlisted in January, since when they had been at the Regimental Depot in Halifax. Pte Jackson was a 33 year-old railway labourer from Bradford; he was married with four children. Pte. Preston was a 26 year-old gas stoker from Keighley; he was married, with three children. Pte. Taylor was a 35 year-old labourer, originally from Manchester, but had enlisted in Huddersfield.

Over the course of two days, the whole of 23rd Division was inspected by Major Genl. Laurence George Drummond, Inspector of Infantry.
